How can you pitch your book to an agent? There are three ways.

NOTES:

For keeping track of your queries...

  • You can join QueryTracker and it can keep track of all your submissions for you. (I haven't done this, but agented author Diana Urban used it and highly recommends it here -- see #4 in the article.)
  • You can use a spreadsheet of your own design
  • You can use my very simple Agent Submission Table (see below)

Sample Twitter pitch:

When a juvenile delinquent discovers an undead fugitive in the coroner’s attic, she has to pass him off as the lead guitarist of her brother’s grunge band—before they both become victims of a witch-hunting cult. WARM BODIES x EDWARD SCISSORHANDS #PitMad #YA #f #mr #p #pr #h #ha

If an agent likes your tweet, you might go to their Twitter page and see something like this:

If I <3 your #Pitmad tweet, please send query + first 10 pages to [email address]. Also, please include your original tweet!

Plus, here are some hash tags you can use for Twitter pitches.
